The Shins - "Phantom Limb"

You might remember The Shins from the movie 'Garden State', where Natalie Portman said their song 'New Slang' changed her life. If you haven't seen that movie, you should. Soon. This is the first single off of The Shins' latest album 'Wincing the Night Away'. I love this song. Maybe you will too...

Table Tennis Tee

Yes, it's an animated t-shirt, from the peeps at Think Geek. It runs on two AAA batteries, which are hidden in an inside pocket. Don't worry, you can remove the screen when it's time to get your laundry on.

From the creators -
Don’t get too impressed. This was originally supposed to be the “Animated Gears of War Shirt” but by the time we strapped a 360 to the back of the shirt and added a flatscreen to the front it just wasn’t feasible. The test subjects kept falling over, no one liked the car battery power supply duct taped to their leg and don’t even get us started on the price.

Now I'm not entirely sure what Animated Gears of War is, but I'm pretty sure I'd like to see what a car battery looks like duct taped to someone's leg.

Finally, the Flask Sandal!

Behold the Reef Dram Sandals, the latest innovation in portable beverage technology. Each sandal holds a generous three ounces of storage capacity for the drink or your choice. Sure to be a hit on college campuses. Though I hope they make them in different styles/colors. Would look a bit odd if everyone at the football game had the same shoes on.

Good Strong Happy!

This is a music video for the song "I Turn My Camera On" by Spoon, starring Keepon, a robot developed by Hideki Kozima and programmed by Marek Michalowski. He is quite the rump shaker, and bears a striking resemblance to an Easter Peep.

Some facts from the programmer:
Keepon is a small creature-like robot developed to perform emotional and attentional interaction with children. It has four degrees of freedom, a soft rubber skin, two cameras in its eyes, and a microphone in its nose.

I want one!

Mavs Lose. Sad Times.

It seems like it was yesterday, when we were ramping up for the playoffs, the number one team in the NBA. We were going to right all the wrongs from last year's NBA Finals. We were unstoppable. Until the Golden State Warriors decided that since we were the only team they seemed to be able to beat handily, they might as well start winning some games after the all-star break, so they could see us in the first round of the playoffs. To add insult to injury, they had recruited the coach that quit on us, that never made defense a priority, that didn't bother to show up for practice sessions. Here, he was complacent, lazy, spoiled and content to just let our team be mediocre. He brought in Avery Johnson, who is greatness, made him head coach, and split. But after a year in 'retirement', he decided that he missed the attention and decided to join the Warriors. Maybe it's because they were the one team we consistently had issues with, who knows. But what you just witnessed was revenge coaching. All of a sudden, defense is important, being at practice is important, being there for your team and giving a crap, is very very important. I think the Warriors outplayed us in every game. We had some shining moments, we showed up at times, but except for Jerry Stackhouse and Desegana Diop, we never really looked like we were hungry to win. We looked soft, we looked unsure, and the saddest thing of all, we looked scared. We flat out disappeared in the end of almost every quarter. We let the Warriors get into our heads and make us doubt ourselves, doubt what we could do on the court, and doubt what got us to the number one seed in the playoffs. I can't say anything bad about Dirk, as I'm sure he is in hell right now. He didn't show up except for a few minutes here and there, and maybe he didn't lead the team, but the way I see it, we forced him to be a leader for this team. He just wanted to play ball, to play his game. Then Steve Nash left and he was pushed into the leader spot. He is greatness all around, and I hope he recovers from this. I hope we all recover from this. But let me just say this. The Warriors better not get too happy with themselves just yet, because the team that you play next didn't have Don Nelson as a coach. He doesn't know all their players, he doesn't know their every move and how to stop them, like he did with the Mavericks. You ramped yourself up to beat us, and only us. I hope you enjoyed that luxury while it lasted. Maybe I'm wrong, but I have a feeling that your celebration will be short lived. The run and gun, thug style of basketball doesn't always beat out the smarter tougher team. Now it's time for more basketball, may the best team win. For right now, Go Rockets!

Proof that even teency people can kick a**. And yes, he will steal your heart away.

I think I might be moving...

Finally, the world's first underwater restaurant! This is from their press release earlier today:

The Maldives | 15 April marks the day that the first ever all-glass undersea restaurant in the world opens its doors for business at the Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. Ithaa* will sit five meters below the waves of the Indian Ocean, surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear acrylic offering diners 270-degrees of panoramic underwater views.

"We have used aquarium technology to put diners face-to-face with the stunning underwater environment of the Maldives", says Carsten Schieck, General Manager of Hilton Maldives Resort & Spa. "Our guests always comment on being blown away by the colour, clarity, and beauty of the underwater world in the Maldives, so it seemed the perfect idea to build a restaurant where diners can experience fine cuisine and take time to enjoy the views - without ever getting their feet wet."

Created by MJ Murphy Ltd, a design consultancy based in New Zealand, Ithaa's distinctive feature is the use of curved transparent acrylic walls and roof, similar to those used in aquarium attractions. "The fact that the entire restaurant except for the floor is made of clear acrylic makes this unique in the world," continues Schieck, "We are currently planting a coral garden on the reef to add to the spectacular views of the rays, sharks and many colourful fish that live around the area.

Where I'd rather be right now. If only it was closer. Sigh.

Get Your Creative On

If you need a little time-waste, or are just in the mood for some internet fun (and not in a bad way, laugh out loud) then check out WetPaintPleaseTouch.com. It's a cool little site that lets you create your own digital masterpiece using a variety of media. You can either start a new painting, or choose one from the gallery, and add to it. I found the 'Dragons Rule' painting in the gallery, and just had to post it. I think it's oddly delightful that someone out there feels so strongly about dragons.

Filed under the category of 'Why Didn't Someone Do This Sooner?', a Japanese airline named Eva Air has introduced a Hello Kitty themed fleet of planes. Everything from the uniforms (see above) to the food is branded with some sort of Hello Kitty cuteness. Even the boarding passes are pink! Blades of Glory: Kick Some Ice...

Went with my friend Poecat (and the soon-to-be-born Poje) to see 'Blades of Glory', the latest piece of comedy greatness from Will Ferrell. We saw it in the afternoon, so I figured there would be a pretty empty theater, but alas that was not the case. Lucky for us, we had a band of crazy office ladies seated directly behind us, who giggled insanely at anything remotely funny (even trailers for scary movies), so we knew when to laugh during the movie. They even gave us a new word: Disturbia-ing. Thanks ladies. Anyhoo, the movie was great, lots of great one-liners, some hilarious moments between Ferrell and Heder, and of course the great Craig T. Nelson (playing a coach, what else?). The husband and wife team of Will Arnett and Amy Poehler was great too. Having a married couple play a sexually ambiguous brother and sister ice skating duo? Comedy gold is what that is! I recommend this movie to all 2 of you that occasionally, but most likely accidentally, end up on this blog page situation. Even though one of you has already seen it. This movie kicks ice!
(okay, i copied that last part from the poster, but it's funny. Isn't it good to be able to laugh a little bit?)
